San Marino anthem is a 1,000-year-old melody

Arranged as a chord-melody solo for electric guitar, the national anthem for San Marino is based on a 10th century prayerbook melody.

This performance by our director was recorded on the Zoom format, which is used for online live guitar lessons. The arrangement includes natural harmonics, tapping, and half-barre left hand strums, and hit-ons.

The melody was written before staff notation, harmonic minor, and keyboard players used opposable digits.

San Marino is an enclave country, landlocked by Italy near the Adriatic coast and the world’s oldest republic, being established in 301 AD.
